Risk assessment

While it is important to conduct the risk assessment in the pre-examination, examination and post examination phases, in which phase can one assess risks associated with impartiality, confidentiality and management related issues?

  • Hi James,

The main aim here is to promote the welfare of patients and satisfaction of laboratory users through confidence in the quality and competence of medical laboratories. So, Risk assessment is helpful in identifying threats to this primary goal. remember, threats can be available in any of these phases that's why the risk assessment becomes more effective when it covers the whole system including all phases.

Risk assessment to identify threats to impartiality, confidentiality and management related issues can be at ant phase since they all apply to all three phases. threat can arise in any step within the chain of service provision (pre-analytic, analytic as well as post-analytic phase).

  • Hi James,

I agree with Musa that risk to Impartially, confidentiality and management issues can occur in all three phases (pre-examination, examination and post examination phase). Elde had previously indicated that the process model tool can be very useful in risk management. Understanding each activity of your any process is crucial in identifying the risks associated with the activity and therefore measures can be implemented to mitigate and control these risks. I would also recommend using the ISO 22367:2020 as a guidance document in developing your risk management program.
