Technology productivity

In most cases technology productivity is used as a quality indicator but I am not sure there is astandard base line reference available for evaluating this indicator so, I need experience sharing or standard refernce to support this idea.

  • we tried to monitor tech productivity but it failed miserably. The initial thought was to log samples run but it proved alot of variables could deter that perhaps Laboratory Information system (LIS) could be one way to go about but we have not used in our laboratory

  • Our variables were:

    • the throughput of our testing equipment
    • the recommended number of samples per technician per day agreed working hours
      • night shift vs day shifts
      • weekends vs holidays
    • The productivity of a lab tech who has gone out of office for a workshop. He is not testing any sample but he is also working.
  • In the race for productivity, we should ensure staff are well monitored for quality results
