Forecasting and calculating reorder quantities

edited August 30 in Archived

The most efficient forecasting relies on data and formulas. How do you handle your expired consumables and reagents and those you give out to other laboratories or departments in the hospital? How does it affect your forecasting if not properly handled in your books? Do you have any experience? I will be glad if you could share with me.

  • I agree with you @Clement Aryee, data and formulas are critical in forecasting for reorder, however, expiring or expired reagents should be well documented and dates routinely monitored as in monthly basis, this should serve as a monthly reminder to understand what is left in your store so that forecasting wont be a problem

  • Through data analysis of monthly test load statistics and forecasting we realized that we had a lot of expensive blood culture bottles that would have gone waste through expiration. We then had agreement with Teaching Hospital which is the major utilization of these bottles in our part of the country Ghana.
