Contingency plan vs preventive action

Is there any clause in ISO 15189 that mention about contingency plan , and what is the relationship with preventive action . Can laboratory expected to have both plan or are they the same?

Comments

  • They are not the same, contingency plans is reactive while preventive plan is proactive. contingency is used to address an occurrence while preventive plan is futuristic, seeking to prevent occurrence.

  • Thanks Femi , and i got the clause , it's under role of lab director 4.1.1.4

  • The ISO 15189: 2012 Clauses 4.1.1.4; 5.2; 5.3.1; 5.10 talks about having in place a laboratory contingency plan for not just testing but equipment, consumables, fire and natural disasters etc

  • Thank you Daron , downtime /failure of electronic LIS -paper based LIS, Assembly point -for fire occurrence , service interruption -back up lab arrangement are some of the elements to be included in contingency plan.

  • I agree👍
